The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace - Karl Jenkins When the Bugle Calls - Nicholas Buc
The Heidelberg Choral Society and Orchestra, together with soloists Stephanie Gibson (soprano), Roxane Hislop (mezzo soprano), Douglas Kelly (Tenor) and Raphael Wong (Baritone) will be conducted by Peter Bandy to present two dramatic choral works. Firstly, The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace, by Karl Jenkins, premiered in London in 2000, which now is a classical music phenomenon with, on average, two performances per week around the world; plus the world premiere of When the Bugle Calls, by the Australian composer, Nicholas Buc, winner of the inaugural Fellowship of Australian Composers Award.
These works focus attention on humanity’s ongoing search for peace despite the passing of one hundred years since the First World War Battle of the Somme, and fifty years since the pivotal battle of Long Tan in Vietnam. An associated photographic exhibition of images of the Somme will provide a visual reminder of the horrors of war, and the continued search for peace.
The photographic exhibition presented at this event is supported by the Victorian Government and the Victorian Veterans Council
